"Love grows by what it remembers of love"

ann1962, I'm in a poetry-quoting mood. Here's more Lisel Mueller -- namely, the poem that made me fall in love with poetry. (Perhaps overly dramatic, but true.) It doesn't seem to turn up on Google but is available in print in her collections Dependencies and Alive Together.
When I first read this, it wasn't so long after my grandfather passed away. It was a hot summer day in a dusty used bookstore. I have a pretty crummy memory, but it seems I can remember that moment perfectly, from the way the shop suddenly seemed to fall quiet to the weight of the book in my hands.
